1/Dec/2013: added index of refraction of polyparaxylylene–silver (PPX–Ag: polymer and silver nanoparticles), based on calculations on reflection spectra from PPX-Ag samples grown at various silver volume percentages from 0 to 15%. This material allows for, among other properties, the creating of interference cutoff filters with a simpler architecture than filters using other methods, from the Boginskaya, Afanas’ev et al ref. 22/Nov/2013: added index of refraction of a three-layered Ag-low-permittivity (LP)-high-permittivity (HP) nanoshell. This is a proposal for "a plausible meta-atom for building ... (3D) isotropic negative refractive index metamaterial(NIM)," for use in such applications as superlensing and light storing. The numerical simulations are from the Wu, Jiang et al ref. Modifying engineering parameters such as the thickness of the middle LP layer can result in controlled shifts of the dispersion curves; other modifications can allow for independent control of the permittivity and permeability. 19/Nov/2013: new Material: added the index of refraction of several bulk optical metamaterials assembled by microfluidic evaporation, from Au, Ag nanospheres. This fabrication technique allows the for engineering of materials in bulk volumes with a wide range of index of refraction and dispersion charateristics by varying fabrication parameters. 16/Nov/2013: added the index of refraction of ZnO nanorods (ZnO NR) from the same ref as previous entry. While material characteristics may vary with fabrication technique, the ref gives good reference values for comparison purposes. These ZnO NR are used for antireflective coatings on CIGSe solar cells and offer considerable advantages over MgF2 coatings, such as in this case a rapid, non-vacuum growth process, among other features. Different values are offered (ZNO_NR_BOT, ZNO_NR_TOP) depending on location and fabrication parameters described in the ref.
